Gas fillups - side stand or centerstand?

We're having an argument/discussion over on the ldrider list about how we fill our ST1300's up with fuel.

Some guys put it up on the centerstand to try to fill every nook and cranny of the fuel tank with petrol.

Some guys leave it on the sidestand because it is easy (for them) and faster and it avoids possibly dropping the bike if you're tired.

How do you fill yours?

Sidestand down. Sit on bike so the bike is not leaning on the sidestand and fill her up. Then lock, get up and lean bike on sidestand.....

Once totally forgot that i didnt put the sidestand down and ooooops - now its the 1st thing i do.

I have always used the center stand when filling up. No real reason. It is easy enough.

Sidestand down, standing beside the bike. I'm typically getting 300 or so miles, so a little more isn't that much of an issue. Anybody checked to see how much more you can get in on the center stand?

I agree with jc0007.... I put the sidestand down while I get out my wallet, and then sit on the bike during fueling, and rock from side to side to get all the air out of the tank.

I use the sidestand. I get about 260 - 270 miles out of a tank. I have once gotten 300 miles.

I rarely am able to put more than 6.8 gallons into the tank when filling up but, I usually don't ride very far after the fuel light starts blinking.

Sitting on the bike is a invitation to long very painful ride home, if your in your home town, it is the end of the day if your on the road.

Gasoline is very harmful to skin and the skin in the area exposed to spills while sitting on the bike fueling is skin best not exposed to gasoline at any time for any amount of time.

Seriously this is a bad idea.

Having difficulty or not being able to get the bike on the center stand is a clear indication that the day is done and a hotel in in order.

I've gotten just over 7.2 gallons in after a serious screw up, freezing temperatures, and a very bad headwind heading into Vaugn NM during the LOE1000. The power of prayer and tape over the blinking light that reads "you are and idiot and you will walk" is the only thing that got me into town. It is amazing what goes through your mind when you know you will be a Popsicle on the side of the road when your remains are found.

Not necessarily.

I always have trouble getting my bike on it's centerstand. Even putting all my weight onto the foot lever.

It just doesn't seem worth the effort to me. A lot easier to just use the sidestand.

I always put it on the center stand before I do anything other than get off of it at a gas station. I routinely get 300+ on a tankful. Putting it up on the center stand has never been too difficult to bother with, even after a 15 hr. all-nighter followed by a 1 hr. plus commute. Gasoline soaked pants are cold, miserable and uncomfortable... and it starts to burn in short order.
