Default Car tires?

Has anyone used a car tire on the rear of an ST1100 or ST1300. If so, what brand and size? Any modification(s) necessary? How is it working? I am looking for someone actually "doing it", not speculating/guesstimating naysayers.

I think before i would ever buy a car tire for my st or wing i would want to ride one that has one on it 1st thats for sure .They do need to make a set of tire's for the guys that don't plan on runing 135+ .To make you buy z rated tires when you don't really need them isn't right!

Half a dozen, or so, maybe more, are running car tires. Several active threads, and a video of the car tire in action over on ST-Owners.com

When my nephew and I rode our Iron Butt last summer, he mounted an car tire to his FJR1300. Bought a different wheel and made modifications to the brakes.

I just bought a Hankook Ventus 205/50/ 17 for the ST. I will mount it as soon as the OEM tire is worn. $96 delivered. No modifications to the ST-1300 are necessary.

Here's a video of the tire on an ST-1300.

The other web site - led you to another website called "The Dark Side." All about various motorcycle owners who have tried and are using car tires on their bikes. I am doing more research and seriously looking at this because: I am a big guy (6' 275) I have a trailer hitch and pull a trailer, and a big top box.

All of these factors contributed to the facts that I get between 4.5k to 6k on a rear tire. The tire wear is a little odd too: it goes tread, tread, tread - cords - fast!!! I have tried Avons, Bridgestones, and am now on a rear Pirelli. I am going to look at the Metzler 880 and the car tire and make a decision. Thoughts

Just saw this thread and it prompted me to register so I could reply.

I've ridden about 4,000 miles on a Hankook K110 Ventus in the past month and so far I've not had anything to sway my opinion, it is a valid option for those of us looking for a good TOURING tire.

Yes, there may be a few reasons to carefully ponder the choice, most of them baseless if you really understand WHY we darksiders even started to consider the change.

Heres a link to a story I wrote on my first 1,500 miles ....

I rode about 10,000 miles on a Kawasaki Nomad using a CT and about 3,000 so far on my 1800 Wing. Both experiences persuaded me to use a CT on my ST-1300. I am not one of those knee-dragging, peg-scraping, go-fast riders.
