Default Any Thougths on UCLEAR 100 vs 100Plus?

I'm looking at the UCLEAR family of bluetooth communicators. Specifically the 100 and 100Plus units. Anybody have any input?

Thanks,

I was looking at the UCLEAR 100 or 100Plus as a bluetooth device to use with my Anroid phone. I want to listen to music, take/place calls on my phone, and use the GPS on my phone to guide me through some traffic situations.

I just typed up a review in another forum. Here it is:

I have had the 200 for a couple of years now. I ride 1-up and alone most of the time, but have 2 sets and have been able to talk with a pillion enough to say it works. I have not been able to test the bike to bike feature yet but will this summer during a 3 bike group ride. Otherwise, here are my thoughts and I would consider myself a satisfied customer.

bluetooth capability:
I usually pair it with my zumo 660 and it successfully pairs ~80% of the time on first try when turning both units on. After a quick shut off of the uclear unit, then back on it pairs 100% of the time. Note my zumo is pairing to my iPhone 4s as well, and I think I rush the pairing process sometimes. Before I got the zumo, I paired it directly to my iPhone successfully and also with a Sena SM10 bluetooth transmitter (for music and radar detector) successfully. I think the firmware updates are continuing to improve the bluetooth connections and stability, but at this point I am very satisfied.

Ease of use:
I have found it to be easy to use once I learn the buttons, I do keep the small manual on the bike in a tank bag but have yet to need it out on the road. It does take a little learning to identify where to push the buttons are with gloved hands, but now it is no problem.

Sound quality:
I can listen to music with earplugs in and riding at interstate speeds (I ride a ST1300), but the volume is usually near max. I have even listened to an audiobook in the same riding conditions. I can talk to my wife on the phone successfully while in motion, but the sound call is improved with the shield or front of my modular helmet up (it does a great job of blocking out road noise). I am satisfied with the sound quality, but on phone calls my wife can tell I am using something different, it is not an issue as my calls are usually pretty short and we can talk successfully. Again, the firmware updates have greatly helped sound quality.

Battery life:
This is unbelievable and I couldn't ask for more. I commute to work ~30 minutes each way with this unit listening to music and it can easily go 2 weeks on one charge. I recently completed a bun burner gold and used the unit for ~23 hours straight listening to an audio book and then commuted to work for a week on the same charge.

Customer service:
This has been great! I have both called and emailed customer service with this company and had rapid response both times. This summer, I had an issue pairing with the zumo after a firmware update. I emailed my symptoms to their customer service, I had a response in <24 hours, he explained they were having some trouble with a few zumo units and included a beta version of the next firmware update. I loaded it and it fixed my problems. I emailed my appreciation back to them and about 1 month later the new firmware version was released to everyone.

Complaints / issues:
Getting the speakers mounted in the helmet just right helps sound quality / microphone pick up but they have new speaker options available if it is an issue. The firmware will only update on the unit using the USB cord that they provide. It looks very similar to just any 'ole usb cord, but it is special so don't lose it. The way the unit slides/attaches to the helmet mount results in it occasionally sliding off. However, small tweak and bend of the metal keeper has reduced this phenomenon.

The latest firmware version is advertised to now allow the 200 unit to pair with other brands of bluetooth communicators. I haven't tried it, but it sure sounds like a good option.

I hope this helps,
Jay

I have the 200 and love it. As mentioned customer service is phenomenal. I originally purchased the set with the mic in the speaker. Due to the design of my wife's helmet I could barely hear her. Uclear sent me a pair of their pro mics (corded mic)...issue solved. The mics were sent free of charge as long as I gave feedback.

Instead of mounting the speakers in the helmet, try using custom Ear plugs with transducers in them.

Sound quality is great and you get better hearing protection.

I got mine from The Ear Plug Company. I went with their Challenger C model.

Just replace the speakers with two lines that end in a mini-stereo plug and plug your ear plugs into it.

Standard UClear speakers have the mic built in to them so if you don't mount their speakers you have no mic.
