Default removing battery over the winter

Hi folks. My ST1300 is a 2008, and according to the first owner I bought it from, still has its original battery (which is working great with excellent read-out). Is that possible? Do these Yuasa batteries last that long?
I'm thinking of swapping it out next riding season, just on general principle. Since the bike's going to be in storage during the winter, is it any problem to just pull the battery over the winter? Is there anything on the bike that needs power during storage? Thanks for any advice.

You will loose the clock readings and need to reset, no problem.

8 years is excellent service from the battery.

My 2007 hibernates each winter in a non-heated shed. Still the original battery. I store it in the house with a slow charge each month. I used the same recipe with my previous bike on which the battery lasted 9 years; both OEM Yuasa.

On both my new 1100 and 1300 the OEM Yuasa batteries lasted for eight years, so maybe it's not that unusual. I live in snow country and have left them sit for up to two months. I don't own a "smart" charger and have no electrical farkles.

I got 6 years from the original battery and it would have lasted longer had it not been for some bad circumstances. Hurricane Gustav put a serious kink in my lifestyle.
