Thank you Joe.
Got my 2003 in 2007 and learned a ton on this site. Didn't post much except for some tech stuff.
I am grateful for your efforts and to others who contributed a lot of good information.
Thanks again

Yes, I regularly backup the whole site with the Admin panel.

The login's are typically (but not always) encrypted, so they may not integrate into a new installation properly, but they can all be reset after an import is complete.

Honestly, my biggest concern is the articles. Lots of time and energy went into them, and I'd like to save them. If they can be ported over to ST-Riders, then I'm cool with it - I'd just hate to lose it all.

As an aside, I would make it a header site on my existing site, which I host here in the house. Consequently, the costs are minuscule (since I own the hardware, there's no hosting cost, and the URL locator has been mine for a long time, with that ongoing registration cost being about $50/year).

Well rats. Really hate to see this happen Joe. Thanks for the time and effort you put in to run the site all these years. Best of luck to you.

Yes Joe thanks for running this site.

And thanks for not banning me, as BMWBMW and ST Owners did!

OK. I've done a bit of research into vBulletin. My server already runs the required PHP 5.x and MySQL 5.x for my other forum (Simple Machines 2.0.13). Extending it to include another forum is as easy as a new instance to already running programs.

I setup the DNS, forwarders, www services, etc, and tossed up a tiny header page to make sure it's all working as i intended.

The only thing stopping a straight move is the vBulletin license. That can be moved from person to person (or server to server, as it were). There's info at this link on how to do it. It looks pretty simple, too. Unless he has a plan to sell it to someone. This is the only thing that costs any $$$, but it's a one-time fee, and Joe's already paid it, so...

Once the files/posts desired are copied to STRiders, it's completely up to Joe whether or not he wants to back it up, and post the backups to my server. I have FTP running - all I need to know is when it's done so I can move the backup to a protected filespace.

I can keep or delete the entire thing with a couple keystrokes.

What's the status of all this ?

Is this forum a dead thing and soon going to go down for the count ?

Yes, I'm just waiting for Tom M. to give me the signal that he has salvaged everything that they want to save.
