I don't recall anyone else offering either.

But I will offer unwanted criticism, useless sarcasm and needless ridicule.

For your Enemies!

I am useless with the technical aspects of this project but I will offer my moral and financial support. I hope you already knew that.

WTF am I missing?

The site was done as in out-of here closed.
A relocation/convergence offer appeared.
Then a keep it going without anything you would call change appears.
Suddenly there is talk of changing airplanes mid flight?
Inconvenient?
Convenient is this case comes in two flavors.
We operate as before.
OR
We go away for good.

The bottom line.
Don't like it find another site.
There is one out there ya know.

WTF am I Missing in all this.

Make some allowances I'm not felling well.
My tolerance for stupidity left me about three days ago.
It probability won't improve in the short term.

Guys, relax. It's all good. I'll host it here, on my hardware, and the only cost will be ~$30/year for DNS hosting. Everything else will be on me.

I've had comm with Joe, and we're only waiting for his vacation to end, and then I'll get to work it all out. Patience. Rome wasn't conquered in a day.

I am patient. And I am not mad or attacking anyone.

I do think that with the relatively small following this forum has we need to be NICE to everyone.

Well...almost everyone. There is at least one guy...

Ha ha! Just so my comment about changing planes mid-flight wasn't misunderstood, I'd like to add my applause for the seamless transition and appreciation for your stepping up and taking on the challenge.

I'm certain I'm not alone in saying THANKS!

OK, well, the good news is I can do a convert from vBulletin to SimpleMachines.

I do have SimpleMachines running (again) in a separate server and schema on the same machine. They both appear operate as they're supposed to.

The bad news is I (apparently) have to have both SMF and VB running on the same box to perform the conversion.

Joe, the backup doesn't have the schema information in it. I don't know how you'd do that in VB. In SMF, there are a couple checkboxes. It does read the file down to line 29, but it errors there. I attempted to get VB 3.7.2, but I can't download it without a valid license.

Can you also check and verify that you're running as UTF-8? If not that character set, I'll need to know which one you're using for the import/convert to work.

I suppose I could log in as admin and do it myself, but I wouldn't even attempt something like that without your prior knowledge, and permission.

Hi Scott,

Sure, I'll check on that. I thought I had added the Schema but, I must have missed something.

I'll check the other things too.

Quick update:

I have the database and config file from Joe (Thanks again!)...I've successfully uploaded the database into my SQL server...

I have the new SMF running...

The convert isn't working as advertised yet. I'm working on that now.

A couple things will go away after the convert and the forum comes back up on SMF. one thing is the bubble popup on links to the posts. Another thing in particular is the PayPal addon (the green "Donate" link on top).

I have found another possibility, and I'd like your input before I pursue it......

Amazon has some sort of partner program I can get into (I haven't yet). The way it works is simple. You follow a specific link (similar to http://www.amazon.com/?tag=st13), and a small fraction of your purchase is placed into an account I haven't yet created. That account can then be used to pay for anything relating to the site.

It doesn't change your payment at the end, and for the site I use it on now, it doesn't make any difference to how the Amazon interface reacts to you.

If you think this would be a good thing to try, let me know. Once I get everything moved and ready, I'll look into it. Might be a (almost) completely invisible way to pay for those minor things we need to keep it running.
