Default New to the Forum

Hey everyone,

My name is Curtis Hinds. I am new to the site (first day). I have owned a Yamaha V-Max 1200 for some time, I sold it, and have been researching and planning to purchase a used St1300. Really excited about entering the sport Touring world. I have not yet bough the bike (in the next 3 months for sure), but I thought it'd be a good idea to get to know some people as well.

I am probably looking to make the purchase on a bike that has some miles on it 120,000km+. Everyone I talk to (non ST owners) are saying that 120k is way too risky to purchase. But very bit of research i've done on the ST (and I have been doing my homework) says otherwise! Any advice on my purchasing an ST over 120k?

Besides that. I am glad to be on this forum. Looking forward to contributing to and learning from the experience that is here.

Thanks

Curtis Hinds

Welcome to the forum Curtis. This is THE place to find good info the ST. Moreover, few individuals on this forum are real ST geeks so any technical question will finds its answer here.

As far as buying a high mileage ST, the key is the maintenance record. Well maintained, it can last much longer than 120k miles.

Welcome to the forum; good luck on your search, there are a lot of good ST's out there with lower mileage at good prices.

The actual answer is we don't know how well they will fair long term, So far the ST1300 has only been 16 years old but what a reliable engine. There really isn't specific issues with high mileage, I have run one to 155k miles and another to 97k, My third is only on 8k but I bought it as it was one of the last available. Expensive parts are front discs and alternators, but as with most things these days labour is the most expensive part so if you can juggle a spanner nothing should cost too much.
Welcome to the forum BTW.

Welcome to the forum.

120,000 km is 74,400 miles. With proper maintenance, numerous STs have gone twice that and more. No need to fear your target number, if you are assured of the maintenance history.

Welcome to !

I'm generally late to every thread, but I always manage to get there in the end, if it's important enough.

Enjoy the site.

There's a "Honda ST Riders" group on Facebook, too, if you're that way inclined.

Welcome aboard. I had a GL1100 for 22 years and thought it was my favorite until I got this one. Just as comfortable and handles WAY better.
