Default Torn Rick Mayer seat

Hello Fellow Riders...

So my beloved 2010 ST is at the local dealer getting some warranty work done for failed MAP sensor. And while it was there a employee ran a fork lift fork from the bottom of the engine cradle on the right side caught part of the fairing then caught the seat and tore the seat. They say they will make it right. My question is, Does anyone have any input on how well the plastic seat pans hold up through multiple stapling's to secure the cover without the pan cracking. Seat was recovered just the one time.

That would be a question I would ask Mayer, whom I assume would be doing the recover.

I agree, ask Mayer. I have never had one redone after the initial customization. I do know that Russell, Laam and some others offer a couple of "adjustments" after the initial build so I would assume that the pan can take at least a couple of re-re-coverings.

And I would be pissed if I were you.

That's Terrible, what shop did you use. I'm close to you, so I want to put it on the radar to never use them.

Not going to see if they "make it right"?

My question also. An employee made a mistake and had an accident. If the dealership makes it right, why would you want to avoid them? If we all avoided every business where an employee ever made a mistake, none of us would survive and there would be no one left with which to do business.

Good point.

In "making it right", is the dealership aware that you're running a custom seat? If so, did you make it clear to them that sending it out to the local upholsterer is a non-starter, and you will require it to be properly redone by the original modifier?

If you don't specify how they must fix it, then their selected choice of fabricators is what you'll get. Now, if you do specify a fabricator for the work, they may not cover all of the cost (although I think they should, and probably would). They may only cover up to what it would cost at their local guy.

Just something to think about. If you haven't talked to them about this specific issue, you might find it's already been done, and not by the person you want it done by.

Having said all that, most upholsterers are quite aware of these things, and can do a quite adequate job of recovering a M/C seat. What you really paid Mayer to do was modify it for your butt. The covering is almost inconsequential.

Who was the dealer so I know not to take my bike there? My water pump is failing and contemplating having the dealer do the work instead of myself. Had issues with Hinshaws in Auburn.

What leads you to believe the water pump is failing?
