If riders were not required to wear helmets eventually there will be no or little cost from riders suffering head injuries. Just sayin.

Not true. There are more stupid people born everyday to replace them.

What gets me is how people who participate in an unavoidably dangerous activity with so little perceived benefit to the general population can turn up their noses at other people who have placed the acceptable risk/benefit threshold in a slightly different place. Such narrowmindedness combined with such vitriol...

I always wear helmets. I always have and--regardless of the law--always will. I do think people who choose not to are fools, but I don't wish them dead, and I don't want to control their behaviour. If we as a society do not wish to pay for the alleged increased costs from risky behaviour, perhaps a mandatory insurance reqirement would be in order. Or a blanket refusal to spend public money on medical treatment/long-term care for people who engage in dangerous activities? But don't single out helmetless motorcycle riders (or, for those who can think beyond their own noses, motorcyle riders in general...)

Ciao,
