Good stuff guys, thanks.

I don't ride as much as I should but I also use up the liner within 5 years or less. Sweating in this hot and humid environment into something that cannot be washed thoroughly like a shirt...YUCK!

As I am sure you know, my question referred to shelf life, not useable life. And it was answered very well, thanks.

Like PaulRB, I have never had a helmet last five years. With the flip up type, the flip up latches can stop functioning, and also I have had the mechanism for the sun visor aux screen break on my Schuberth C2 . Over time, if you wear it almost every day, the helmet eventually is too big. That is what usually motivates me to get a new one. It no longer fits correctly.

A little digression.... For a period of time Schuberth had no distributor in North America. I had lost the black plastic disk that holds the visor on the C2. I had lost it at speed while being overly ambitious about making adjustments. I searched high and low and could not find one, even from European suppliers. In desperation I wrote a letter to Schuberth in Germany, in English. 10 days later I received a pair of the plastic disks in the mail, sent express, no charge.
