The clamp holds pieces together but it may be that only Superman has enough strength to bend steel.

With my adapter kit you don't need clamps, scissor jacks, hoists, a vise, or any other heavy equipment. Just bolt 'em on and you're done, about five minutes a side if you're handy.

I installed a kit similar to this a couple of years ago. Since then, I've been down twice - once time at 10mph and the other time at 25. Both times, the saddlebag lids were scratched but not broken.

More important, my feet and lower legs were unscathed. The Goldwing bars are very strong. I prefer the lighter look of the Big Dawg bars but I don't believe they can protect as well.

My 2 cents.

Ride safe.

I like mine so far. 1/2 hour total to install. It was a little tricky on the right side but, I got them on without too much trouble.

The "lighter Look" of the ByDawg bars is deceptive.
They are solid bar stock, not tubing, and mine survived a 30mph and 30 yard slide with only a scuff of the powder coat.
The engine guard and it's cover did not survive The Test.
The engine guard is tubing and it was ground through with about a one inch hole on it's outer edge.
You can't expect to hit ground and slide one at 30mph without damage and in it's defense the engine guard did it's job very well and although it gave it gave the last full measure of devotion it kept expensive parts from contacting the cheese grader we call asphalt in my part of the world.

The ST's owner protection package is second to none.
I scuffed my Motoport pants at the hip.

The bike was ridden home where I apologized profusely and ordered up parts.
Seven days later there was no evidence the event took place.

I think of them as tip-over bars, not really for protection at speed. I've scratched the hell out of my saddle bags in the past when the bike fell over while stopped.

Plus, the chrome Goldwing bars are purdy. ;-)

Hi everyone, I've got a new run of the Goldwing crash bar adapter plates in. There is better material, machining, and attention to detail. I am not increasing the price on this forum in spite of the higher material/labor costs, so the new ones are still $48 with all hardware. I also have a limited number of high polish plates for an additional $20 ($68). These look great with chrome bars (also on hand. I have chrome bars for $67 and black powdercoat bars for $87. All prices plus shipping, paypal friends and family payment. Here is a pic of the old ones, new ones and high polish ones.
