Some day I may get around to using the ball mount screw in my riser cap.

Tim,

Which model Tom Tom do you use? I have the Tom Tom XL and the display isn't bright enough in direct light, for me.

Here is how my TomTom Rider 1 was mounted. It has now been replaced by a Rider 2 using exactly the same arrangement but with an updated fixing on the back of the unit instead of the clamp over the top edge. It also bluetooth's to my helmet so I get verbal instructions as to what is coming up and which way to go at junctions, cutting down on the need to look at the satnav screen.

Pretty sure its a ONE 2nd Edition. In direct sun it is difficult to read, I have to shade it with my hand. I don't really use it for turn by turn. Its more for "How fast am I going?" "Where the heck do I go from here?" or "What's the quickest way home?" And once or twice "Where's the nearest Motel 6?"

Its been a while since I've shopped GPS's, but I wonder if any auto GPS is actually daylight rated. The daylight rated airplane cockpit LCD displays are far brighter than anything I've seen available for cars.
