Default MotoGP in Japan: Saturday Night

BeIn Sports channel will air the Japanese round of MotoGP tonight (Oct. 15) at 9:00 CDT. My listing shows 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM, so there may be some content in addition to the Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP races.

BeIn is much better than the old Speed Channel. Flag to flag with no commercial interruptions, and they usually re-run the races at least once during the following week.

It is a PITA to have to order an additional "package" from the cable company, but our sport isn't popular enough to get major network attention. (And, yet, NASCAR is on all the frickin' time...)

BeIN beats all the coverage I've ever seen. Pre-race discussion, qualifying is covered and post race interviews, which Speed had dropped the last couple of years. As mentioned already I really like the lack of commercials during the race itself. The only trouble with the live coverage is that you need to add some time, if you are recording it, to account for red flags and other delays. I have 30 minutes additional added to my DVR programming.

I didn't get to see any Moto2, or Moto3, for this event.
Sometimes it's there, sometimes not.

Dunno whether BeIN does different coverage in different markets or distribution networks, but they've started doing the entire Moto 3 / 2 / GP series as a single four-hour-long program listing where I am. They ran long on the previous event (football, I think) so their Moto3 coverage started just seconds before the flag dropped.

I was caught off-guard the first time they did that, because I was accustomed to seeing separate listings for each level. Now I set the DVR and capture the whole thing, then whiz through the 20 minutes of ads and buildup between races.

It was all there in one 4+ hour broadcast.

Who does the commentary on BeIN? One of the few advantages of living in the UK is that we have BT Sport covering all three days (Friday practices through Sunday races). Eurosport used to do the same thing, but they lost the contract a couple of years ago. BTSSport race commentary is currently Julian Ryder and Keith Huewen, with Neil Hodgeson, James Toseland and even Colin Edwards II doing practices and qualifying sessions. Keith never shuts up, but the others are fine...

Ciao,
