Default What to look out for on used ST1300

Seriously considering buying what appears to be an excellent condition 2006 St 1300 (non abs) with 30,000 miles. It is at a dealership and looks to be a well taken care of bike. Any issues I should look out for or areas of bike I should check over before purchasing?

I have been lurking around here for a few weeks and would value your opinions. Thanks in advance.

Gasoline. Make sure there is a full tank of gasoline.

These bikes are pretty solid, they have their quirks but very few major problems. 30K miles is not much, but you will want to be sure the valve checks have been done. If not, have them done. It is not often any of them are out of adjustment but you don't want to be That Guy.

If the owner's manual is not included, get one ordered. The ST1300 is the only thing I ever owned that I could not change the oil in without reading the manual first.

Good luck.

What they want for it?

In 2010 my local dealer had an 04 with 30k on it for $6995. I found one in Houston (an 04) with 3k on it for the same price.

As long as it's been well maintained there's no special problems to look out for. Can the dealer supply maintenance records? Even if maintenance was ignored, my bet is the bike would still be pretty solid.

The dealer is asking $7000. Of course I am not going to pay asking price.

With the maint records, you should see regular oil changes, rear diff oil, valve checks/adjustments (first should have been at 16K, not positive about second). Check the little sight window on the brake and clutch fluids. Should be clear, or pretty close to it. Dark clutch fluid means it's been a while and needs to be changed. However, changing the clutch fluid is pretty easy for anyone with a 10mm wrench and some time. No reason not to purchase or anything - just something to look at.
