OUCH! I can't imagine the humility I would have to learn after convincing the wife that this new bike is "the bike" AGAIN (in my situation at least).
I do hope you recover soon and that the injury is
1)covered by your medical insurance
and
2)you don't have to miss time from work as I sense you are quite dedicated to your job.
You say it was cold, but don't say how cold....did it get down to freezing temps that far south already? I can't fathom that it did...so it must have been oil or diesel on the road.
It really emphasizes that fourth dimension to your tag line...TIME.
"Never run out of traction, ideas and real estate all at the same time"
I'm sure that if you could have slowed down time here you would have found some way or space to save it.

Thank you. Thank you all for your kind words, thank you for knowing exactly what I am feeling right now.

My ride home temp was 33 degrees F, unusually cold for the Deep South this early in the season. There has been no precipitation in the preceding month so intersections are more slippery than normal.

I was very much aware of the "new tire glaze" and the FJR comes with Bridgestone BT023s which are not my tire of choice. Still, many folks like them so I cannot blame the tires... The FJR has two engine maps and I was running the "Touring" map which has a very soft power delivery. I was taking it very easy, much slower than I would have with the Honda.

It was a very low speed fall but it happened instantly. No warning, no slide. Just down.

I went to work tonight, (in the truck) and they sent me home. I have to get released by the plant doctor before I can return. I will do that tomorrow. I don't care what physical test he administers, I can grunt it out long enough to get myself past it and back to work.

My new bike still looks good from 3 directions anyway...

Once riding my ST13 home from work I stopped at an intersection I had stopped at for decades for a red light. When I made the right hand turn there was sand, just a little and not enough to be visible, on the road and I ALMOST dumped it. Makes you think!

On the other hand...

Getting off the NJTPK at Exit 7 after a trip to upstate NY I paid the toll and right in front of me was SIX INCHES of sand some idiot in a truck dumped for 100 yards ahead of me. I had my 1100 GS then. After bitching out the booth attendent as to why they didnt close the lane I rode right through it!

Ouch !
Pride hurt more than anything else, well maybe except getting out of bed in the morning with broken rib(s).
You probably got the new parts ordered already.
Could have been a combo of tire mold release, road grit, etc.
I've run many 023's, 021's, I really like the grip rain or shine after scrubbing them in, I use a school parking lot on Sunday AM, circles and figure eights almost on the TT stops.
You know what "They" say--- there are only three types of riders........

I was wondering how all would take that comment, I was thinking everyone knew that there are three types--
1-- riders who are going down
2-- riders that have gone down
3-- riders that are going down again

It's almost inevitable, first time I was sliding down the pavement backwards with the 850 Norton in close pursuit after a infamous high side, the first thing that came to my mind, was "Well it's about time".

Hey Red,

Like in the movie, "The World According to Garp", now you can say that your FJR has been "pre-disastered".

The chances of it happening again are now very, very low.

Glad you're ok, they do say that the first 100mi on new tires are the slickest, that would be my bet, plus with the cool weather does seem that would be a bad combo. My traction control on my Connie has kicked on a few times and I love it. These bikes should come with traction control, ABS, and cruise. Take care and heal fast.

Depending on how you ride.

When I got my last new set of tires, I rode through as much dust, dirt and gravel as I could, to dull the surface.

Of the tires, not the bike.
