Default A Las Vegas Quickie

OK, I'm going to bore you again with another RR this Fall. A few weeks ago my son comes over and says that he was invited to a wedding in Las Vegas and he is going to ride his S1000RR. I talked about the perils of riding across the mountains in the middle of October.

After a week of mulling it over I ask him if I can ride along. Now mind you, I have no interest in riding to Las Vegas itself. I'm just interested in painting Nevada red on my map and getting some miles around SW Utah & NW Arizona. So does riding to the edge of LV and back count?

I've already been prepping the ST, new Michelin PR2s, mounted the Kolpin fuel tank to the back (for his RR) and new Kolpin LED aux lights. Got maps out today to start looking over potential routes.

So Red, want to meet up with us out there?

Don't go teasing Red until he gets his knock sensor issue sorted out. That's not very fair.

Ok, I won't knock him

I ran the route on my mapping program, US30 - I35 - I80 - I76 - I70 - I15, pretty quick, huh? It's 1,560mi. which should be an easy 2-day ride but being in the middle of October and the shorter, cooler days it will probably turn out to be a 3-day ride.

I told him that I'm not interested in riding over the mountains if it is snowing. I've done it in June & July but the pavement then is warm enough to melt the snow right away. Not so sure this time of year.

I'll probably load for camping, again if the weather is agreeable. We have places to stay lined up out & back so hopefully we won't be paying for a motel.

Ah, it's okay. As much sarcasm as I dish out I have to be able to take it when someone pokes fun at me. At least I know you are thinking about me.

"Ok, I won't knock him" That is really pretty good. I like that!

I am sitting here with my bad ECU perched on the desk looking at me. I will not hijack your thread though.

The new LED driving lights look great. I went with a set of MondoMoto LEDs and love them. I put a set on Dad's FJR and my ST1300. It is amazing how well other drivers can see those bright white LEDs.

I just got back from Las Vegas, last week.
I am still too infirm to ride, but we drove over to Valley, through Yosemite and on to Alcatraz.
Beautiful weather, not too hot, or cool.

You do mean Las Vegas Nevada, right?

That's the plan. Is there another one?

So far the 10 day forecast is looking good.

Las Vegas, New Mexico is the other one. A very neat town in a very pretty part of this country. If I ever get a chance I will use that town as a base and spend about a week riding the area around there.

My sister-in-law is from Las Vegas, NM. Haven't been there yet in my two visits to the state, but I think my wife's brother may have been as much in love with the land as he was with Doro...he has a thing for lovely, live earthscapes. BTW he is also a Honda rider but more in the Goldwing camp. I think he had a fully faired 1980 CB900 at the time they met.

So many places to visit, so little time.

Yes, I'd love to do more investigating of NM and also that elusive Hwy 191 across the border in AZ. Someday, someday (sigh).

Some of the best motorcycle roads I ever even heard of are in New Mexico between Las Vegas NM and Taos NM. I will make it back there some day.

As for 191 in AZ, it is just as good (actually great) as you can imagine. It makes the Tail of the Dragon look like a joke. I was never once scared of the Dragon, 191 made me nervous in my truck. The only issue is that it is just so darned far from Everything.
