Default Annoying Buzz Behind Upper?

Im getting an annoying buzzing sound around 3500-4000rpms and the noise seems to be coming from behind the speedo cluster upper fairing area. Anyone else have this issue? Can you steer me to the culprit to save me some hassle? Thanks!

Is the noise entirely dependent on engine RPMs? Does the bike's actual speed affect the buzzing? Does moving the windshield have any effect?

Yes it is entirely a vibration related buzz that coincides only with rpm. Windshield position and or speed does not affect the noise.

There's nothing mechanical back there that would be affected by RPM (like a mechanical tach). There are a lot of other things that might not be tight, and could sound like they were up there. If the fairing mount frame is loose, it might rattle the front nose.

Just some thoughts.

Perhaps the speedo cable is going or needs living?

Well it appears I fixed it . There is a tiny little tab at the top of each (L/R) inner cowl that slips in behind the glove boxes. Both little tabs were not slipped under but were on the outside and evidentally causing the annoying buzz for some reason. I was looking around for something obvious before I removed all the plastic. Glad I did!

I am glad you found it. I could not think of anything useful to say to help you in your search other than asking questions to help troubleshoot.

In all truth the most annoying thing I have ever heard behind the windshield of my ST has been...

ME!
