Yamaha builds a better Harley engine than Harley.

One very interesting feature.
Simply moving the the bike within your own garage can require assistance.
Yamaha assistance will come in the form of bush-button reverse and forward.

They are much "composed" looking than any hardley ferguson
Gee, I wonder they handle better?
Clown week here in NH.
Seems even the newer hds run rich, every group that goes by in the opposite direction smells of leaking gas, riding behind a group sometimes it's so strong I have to drop--way--back.
Must get terrible mpg, and with the way 98% of them "ride", on the throttle, off the throttle, repeat all day.

It's not "how they ride"...Hardley engines don't idle. They don't have an idle adjustment, and the engineers haven't yet found a way to adjust the fuel system to deliver the right amount for the engine to idle properly. So you, as the rider, must constantly blip the throttle, or it will die.

....or so it seems...

Most of the above information/speculation is untrue. Harleys come from the factory running lean. If you are behind one and it smells "rich", it's probably because they've changed the pipes and/or intake setup which required dyno tuning. This takes it away from the factory lean setup. Harleys idle just fine - mine does. I think the throttle "blipping" just comes from habit and enjoyment of the sound coming from the single-pin crank engine.

I loved my ST1300 for ten years, but I went back to Harley because I just enjoy riding the Ultra Classic. I love the sound, the feel, the "non-snatchy" throttle and it handles just fine. It just doesn't have the lean angle that the ST has.

To each his own. I just like riding and I really enjoy riding the Harley! Mine is stock and it has bluetooth, 25 watts per channel stereo, USB port built in, ABS, linked brakes, air adjustable suspension, cruise control, gear indicator, LED headlight and spotlights, throttle-by-wire, six speed tranny, gas tank range is about 260 miles, I'm getting the same mpg that I got with the ST ... etc. Oh, and the factory seat is super comfortable.

I'm just thankful that I have a bike to ride ... and I'm lucky mine's a Harley!

A "rich" Harley has a problem.
In "stock trim" Harley complies with exhaust emissions.
Screaming Eagle equipped do not.
We heard a lot about how VW cheated exhaust testing last year but very little as to how Harley did the exact same thing.
Harley got caught and Harley paid big fines and worst of all were forced to recall and replace their Screaming Eagle ECU box seriously adding to the cost of compliance.

Everything runs lean today.
You no longer get to slap on open exhaust systems/intake enhancement kits/fuel delivery kits, and Dyno Tuning is one of the biggest ripoffs in the business today for autos/trucks or bikes.
