Smile My most challenging rides to date - 48-Plus and 10-10ths.

Well, I made it! Pending certification by the IBA, I just completed the 48-Plus and 10-10ths rides on my '05 ST1300.

After nearly 3 months of planning and prepping the bike, I managed to ride to all 49 states in about 8.5 days, ending the 48-Plus ride in Hyder, AK. Then I headed for my friends place in Saskatchewan, to reach over 10,000 miles in less than 10 days. After a few days rest, I rode the 1800 miles back home to Phoenix, for a trip total of over 12,000 miles in 14 days.
The trip was not without a few incidents, and I rode through over 3000 miles of some of the worst rain I've ever experienced. My shortest day was 916 miles, my longest day was the last one, at 1226 miles. I averaged about 4 hours of sleep a night, and lost 12 pounds over the 10 day period. I did these rides to see if I have the physical endurance needed to enter the 2015 IBR. I guess I do.

When I get time, I'll write up some sort of ride report. I'm getting ready now to ride the BigTex Rally in a couple of weeks, and then attend the IBA Memorial Ride event in Dallas 2 weeks after that. I'm also riding my WR450 in another LA-Barstow-Vegas AMA ride over the Thanksgiving weekend. This will be my 3rd LA-B2V, which is roughly 400 miles off-road.

That is so very impressive. Please let me extend my compliments on a ride well ridden and a job well done.

It does not sound as though you are bound by the chains of 9-5 employment.

Congrats, Garry.

Kind of late in the season to be attempting these types of rides (i.e., bad weather as you found out) but, that will certainly give you some practice at it. ;-)

Good luck in the upcoming rallies.

Nice, I want to do the same but think I'll stop and smell the flowers a bit more...

Actually, I normally work 60 hour weeks. But being the owner of a small business does allow me to take a couple of weeks off now and again.
