Default Harvey, Texas and me....

There are probably a hundred other threads on different sites about this, but at the moment...

Harvey is a Cat4, 50 miles off the coast, moving at 8MPH...

I'm far enough from the coast my only real worry is flooding. So far, for my area, they're expecting:
- 10 to 20 inches of rainfall,
- 60 to 80 MPH winds.

If the power stays on, I'll be fine. The yard, house and areas around me are secure. I'm a (unwilling, but stuck) transplant from Florida, so I'm quite used to preparing for this.

- I mowed the grass just a little bit ago. I won't get the chance over the next few days, and it's going to grow like crazy with all the water.
- I have the entire forum database (Thanks, Joe!), and if luck holds, I'll be working on importing everything into SimpleMachines. For those who don't know, SimpleMachines is another forum software package, and to be quite honest, I might be setting myself up for failure attempting to do this.
- I'll post a quick update here from time to time to let those who know me also know I'm fine. I do get occasional texts from people asking my status. Thanks for that - I really appreciate it.

UPDATE: Harvey just made landfall. Still no rain in my area. Lots of clouds, and they're cooking along at a nice pace.

I plan to. I also plan to visit you during Thanksgiving when I'm up there.

....and you thought it was an idle threat....

As some of you know I have been through this a few times. It is all part of the joy of living in a Gulf State.

chaissos, as you already know, I am here. I am always here if you need me. Of course we are supposed to get some of it next week also but not as bad as you will.

Thanks. I'm quite a ways away, near San Antonio. We only expect - really - a lot of water.

Texas does have a problem with water. These people have no idea how to handle it. Plus, the land is pretty unforgiving when the problem is water. It doesn't so much soak in as move around, and causes a lot of problems. I'm on more or less high ground, and won't have a problem.

There are hundreds here who've left their homes on the coast. I hope they're OK. I know there are extra medical staff here, and others. They've turned schools and other buildings into make-shift housing, and they're asking for donations. This is all normal for anything of this sort. Red and I have both gone through them before.

Just found out the rains have started here. And so it begins. For the next 3 days.

Haven't heard from Mick yet, who is about under the northern edge at the moment from the looks of it. How you doin', fella?

Mick is by Houston. I heard there are something like 14 million without power over there. He's likely one of them. If anyone has his number you could text and check on him.

I had forgotten that I did in fact have Mick's number. I just sent him a text.

Mick is fine right now. He says hard rain on and off which is typical of tropical cyclone bands. No flooding...yet.
