Always on side stand. The main reason is that I always pull up with the pump on my left side . That way the bike is leaning to the left and it makes it easy to fill. No way would I stay on the bike while fueling, by the time I need gas my as$ is sore and I want to walk around a little.

Hmmm, I'll try using my left foot on the stand to see if that works better.

I do what ever suits me at the time.
I usually do it on the centerstand but not always.
If I'm unsure of the next gas stop, then I will use the centerstand.

I agree with Paul about filling while sitting on the bike, too hazardous.

Where is Maura, we need her to show Joe how to put his bike on the centerstand?

I used to put it on the center stand but I don't think it matters much. Now I just use side stand. ALWAYS get off the bike and stretch out and take a quick look at the TIRES!

Rarely use the centre stand. except to wash the bike. Gas is fluffy airy stuff that mostly you can't see. Putting gas in the tank does no good at all. I prefer to put petrol in as that is a yellowish liquid that burns really well in the internal combustion engine. And how can you have liquid gas? I'm so confused. But I can't be bothered in levering a fully laden ST onto its main stand just to squeeze a thimbleful of extra gas/petrol into it.

I disagree with Paul. I understand the concern about fuel spillage, but the ST has a well designed and recessed fill port. As long as you are controlling the fuel volume and watching what you're doing, you aren't going to spill more than a teaspoon, and that goes down the spill tube.

But, of course, caution is the key!!!

I always fill on the centerstand. Not so much worrying about how much gas I can squeeze in but it makes it easier if I need to get into the saddlebags and it gives a nice level surface to lay gloves on the seat etc. I use the same procedure when I ride the Wing.

Definitely do not sit on bike when fueling.

Seriously this is a bad idea.

Fully agree with you Paul and if the absolute worst happened and there was a spark it would not be a pretty sight.
Always fill mine up from the side and on the centre stand.

So has anyone actually tested to see how much more gas (petrol) you can get in on the centerstand vs sidestand?? (I'd test it myself but we are in the midst of a mighty poor riding season here in New England.)

Does anyone fill the tank above the bottom of the restrictor/vent/filler insert thingy?? And if so, how do you do that without spraying fuel all over??

I voted for 'sidestand', BTW.

OOOps! Ignore the second part of my post just above. It's my FJR (please forgive me for I have sinned) that has a stupid restrictor/vent thingy in the fuel filler that pretty much keeps you from filling the last 2" of fuel.

As Gild Radner used to say on SNL: "Never mind."
