When I initially read this thread I knew that there was no way I could attend. Job concerns that had been scheduled years prior would prevent it. This was almost a relief since I had something to blame it on.

Now, I am told that things here may get pushed back into July or later. I am revisiting this thread and wondering... According to Mapquest it is about 2900 miles from my driveway to WeSTOC. I am thinking...

that's half way to Alaska, you need to chat with Echo and get in on his plan!

Or think of it as being just past my place. ;-)

No, Echo has taken your advice and is planning to ride to Lanai. He is engineering outriggers, a sail, and is smearing dielectric grease over his bike as we speak.

Actually, it is ALL the way to zldrider's house. If I make it that far Joe might welcome me with open arms. He might prepare a gourmet feast, let me sleep in his best spare bedroom, and show me the best routes on my way to Canada. He might even let me follow him all the way there.

Or, he might make sure I am never heard from again...

At this point I am on the fence. My job may or may not allow this. My wife may or may not allow this. It would require at least 8 days on the road to get there and back plus the 3 or 4 days there.

At the least, I gave this thread a bump.

EIGHT days to get there and back?

LOL

You've done a SS1000 before, haven't you?

Cut that in half.

2 days to get there and 2 days to get back with 3 days there = 7 tops. Leave on a Saturday morning early, arrive Sunday late or possibly Monday early.

Spend 3 fun-filled days with WeSTOC'ers and start back either Thursday or Friday and arrive at home Saturday or Sunday.

That's the whole purpose of LDRiding, Red. ;-)

Of course, if you want to stop on the way there to have lunch, I'm sure I could meet up with you somewhere.

I would have offered to put you up for a night but our new circumstances mean that Julie has to avoid people and the possibility of germs (she just cannot chance getting sick).

But don't let that stop you from going on a cross-country adventure.

(Big grin)

About 2900 miles one way from my (wife's) house. I would be passing through some country I have never seen before, I know I would have to slow down to enjoy some of it either going or coming. While I think I could do it fairly easily in 3 days, two days is out of the question for me. Expecially with the Sargent seat. Santa did not bring me a Russell yet...

By the way, I don't make a good houseguest anyway. I snore. No, what I meant to say was I SNORE! I do bathe fairly regularly, I don't shed much anymore but I take up lots of space. Plus, when all the neighborhood ladies find out I am there they will be piling up on your doorstep.

There is an FJR gathering in Arkansas at that same time which has some appeal for me, or I may do nothing. Most of this depends on the scheduling at work, finances and my own personal courage.

Puzzled look

From San Diego to Jacksonville, Florida is about 2900 miles.

Where are you from again?

Well, let me know if you do want to meet up. I think it would be fun.

I'm trying to decide whether to go too. I would have to leave my wife at home and right now, I cannot do that. But perhaps in a few months she'll be better.

BTW, NO one snores worse than my dad up at Deer Hunting camp in a small trailer. If I can sleep through that, I can sleep through anything.

LOL

The shortest Mapquest Route to the hotel is 2733.27 miles from my driveway. The route I moved around to take in some different scenery is 2778.23 miles, 47 hours 29 minutes. I figured some error for any sightseeing I might do along the way and rounded up to 2900 miles. I know that if I am riding alone and take the shortest route I can do it in less than 3 days. I don't know if I want to do that.

In any case, it is still up in the air. I have not talked to Mrs. Redfish yet and finances will have to be looked at carefully IF I decide this is a go. That is a big IF at this stage.

I was forgetting how far up Vancouver Island the hotel is from where I am.

LOL

Some guys fly their wives in and then meet them on their bikes at the hotel.

That usually secures a kitchen pass.

It's a beautiful area. I'm sure that she would love it if you can swing it.

I might go up there for one day and go home the next.
