Default Magnetic Tank Bag Users - Question

Question for you.

Is anybody putting some type of paint "protector" under your bag?

I've run the Cortech Mini's, or something mini sized, magnetic bags from about day one on the ST. The bags hold up fine but the foam at the magnets always comes off eventually leaving the magnet still covered but a countdown clock on it's lifespan has kicked in.

What are you guys using if anything to keep the bag from hazing the paint?

I don't use a Cortech but use a Sedici sold at Cycle Gear. If it breaks which mine did they will give you a new one. Life time warranty . Has good protection under bag .The zipper broke.

I use a JR Manta bag and a Road Gear Jumbo tank bag interchangeably. Never bothered with any paint protection and have not seen an issue. Just be careful where you set your bag should it pick up something that could scratch. On a trip I carry some Pro Honda polish cleaner and make sure the tank surface is clean every time I remove and replace the bag.

3M makes a spray on version of their clear film scratch protector. I considered using it on my CB1000c. With the ST's long fuel range, and the tricky fit of my current magnetic tank bag (which also carries my hydration-pak),, I will like test some hd Saran wrap as a disposable protector. Cat'

Like Jeff I've just been very careful with my Cortech Mini tank bags and never used protection for the paint. I say bags because I lost one at a gas stop. I don't even bother with spray polish. I keep a small terry cloth towel in the fairing pocket and lightly wipe off the tank before replacing the bag. No scratches or paint damage.

I do take care with what the magnets pick up if your not careful.
This is not my first Cortech Mini and all of them have eventually started to loose the foam bottom around the magnets, the rear in particular.
I'm not actually scratching the paint and have not in the past just trying to avoid doing so.

An idea here for more cheap carrying capacity!
