What year ST and when were the brake system services done over the life of the bike?

Was the fluid original, never changed or bled for 8 years, until the rear caliper hose caught fire?

No, fluids have been changed at the dealer and will be again, on October 2nd.

No issues, when I rode a month, or so ago.

I am interested in the results of this poll but I am confused. The accordian like rubber boots or "dust seals" are what I try to clean. To me the "seals" are square o-rings, in grooves on the piston, that stay within the body of the caliper. I would only have access to these if I were doing a caliper rebuild. Perhaps I'm overthinking this. It has happened before.

The poll will end on the 25th, results shortly thereafter.

As for the cleaning.
The area between and around the pistons, basically top edge of the square seals is the area in question. No need to pop to pistons out and remove the square-rings but to knock the road grime/brake dust off the piston/square-ring area.
