Guys,
Did I get a suprise, about 24k on the bike and well I go through tires no big thing. It seems as if there is a pile of tires awaiting install for this mini fleet I have.I probably should have a rack to store them...they usually sit in a closet away from all electrical appliances and in large leaf bags. So I was about a new MEZ-6 for the rear wheel....bikes on the center stand, bags off and the pipes are loosed and splayed down. Of course the ends resting on shop rags. The way it looks sitting there is as if someone hit it in the rear end. If you do your own tire installs what ever method you choose its a known fact Sport-Tourong tires have a stiff as heck sidewall and can be a tough install. I have a No-Mar tool at home for this chore, it is easier than fighting levers and spoons ....with that said the S-T tire will try you. I hadn't checked the bearings and for some reason I did check this time and found the outboard bearing more notchy than I liked. Off to thre shop manual I go, well since I have the wheel off this is an opportune time to do the job. I guess ion a way I'm complementing "Mother Honda" for over engineering this set up. If you haven't been into your rear wheel it rolls on not tw o but four wheel bearings. The removeable "flange set" has two then on to the wheel another bearing of large size and as I recall not a cheap bearing either then to the left side a single bearing, there are sundry seals not mentioned but they are there....four bearings what a set up. At least I can remove the flange set and press the bearings out and back in. The good folks from UPS sent me a notification my parts should be arriving at my location on Monday some time...only problem is we in the mid South didnot dodge the winter blast and we now have our lovely berg covered in 2-4 inches of ice and more ice.....NOAA has kindly extended the winter advisory to Monday night for our locale......due to this ice debecale we have lying around....Wifey love it thinks the snow is {it ain't snow I told her} romantic......I see bent fenders, cars sliding around....un controlled....you know we don't get this stuff around here....folks don't know how to drive in this crap....me thinks most don't "drive" but go places...to and from work to home but driving is all but a lost art here.....most aim...in between cell phone calls that for some seem endless....or the make up artist.....or the poor newspaper challenged book reading of us....at any rate I got wheel bearings to put in and a tire to put on......I think this is over.... ![]() Rod ![]()

hojo70,
Sometimes keepin up ain't half as bad as puttin it down, and with that said...my parts came in as UPS said they would, tire for my VFR and the bearings for the ST....Tomorrow I'll be out in the "Old Guys Garage" doing some bearings...then the tire ...hope fully this will go at least half on the year.....then I put the set of tires on the VFR....That will leave me with only one bike left in need of tires....The GS850 I restored last year is in need..... WEll I better get some rest I got near a full day of work to do.... Rod ![]() by the way welcome for your first post.....lets hear what you got going on.... rod

Guys,
The weather finally broke enough to get the temps in the "Old Guys Garage" to a tolerable degree. When I went out there it was 45 so I cranked up the heater and went back inside for an hour...... The temp was about 65 when I went back outside.....so I decided to try the tire again....after I decided it had had enough of me I decided to go the bearings. I have a set of photos I'll try to attach to this. This was fairly straight forward....I thought I may need a press but didn't , trusty old lead hammer from the sports car days is still in my tool box as is a large brass dowel..... The parts were easy enough to remove from the flange and I was concerned about getting the bearings off of a it looks like a spacer and is shown in the Honda fiche on RonAyers site. They too came off with the aid of my trusty lead hammer and a old socket. The bearings seemed ok after I got them off but I figured I had come this far new seems better to me. I did obtain a tub of h2o proof grease and dabbed it into each of the new bearings till it just oozed out over the side. The more I thought about the old bearings I took me a sniff and they smelled burned up....no odd feelings going down the road but I feel better with this job all but behind me.Not being a mechanic has its disadvantages but that has never stopped ,e from attempting to effect a repair on my motorcycles, and I must say that the feeling of accomplishment is a good one....especially when you go out for a ride and all is good....here's the photos... Rod ![]() p.s. Hey Dick I told you it looked likeit got hit in the rear.... rod
