G2 Throttle Tamer Cam system for the ST1300

The G2 Throttle Tamer Cam system kit with Delrin Bushing inserts consists of one Throttle tube with a modified Cam on one end.  Here is a picture of the kit with documents that came with it.

Not much to it really but, the idea is very ingenious.  Instead of just having a constant radius that the throttle cables will wrap around, why not graduate it so that the initial movement of the throttle doesn’t move the cable as much as later?

It’s a simple idea that seems to work great.

Here is a close up of the G2 throttle tube (Right) compared with the stock tube (Left).

Notice the difference in the ring diameter on one side of the G2 tube versus the other side.

You can also see the inner Delrin bushing insert.  There is another one on the other side of the tube.  This is what the tube will “ride” on when turned.  It is self lubricating and makes the throttle feel velvety smooth.

Installation

1.       Remove the Bar End weight and the grip.

2.       Be very care when separating the control casing that you do not pull them totally apart.  Pull apart just enough to be able to slip the stock throttle tube out of the casing.

You may have to adjust the throttle cable slack to provide some working room.

3.       Remove the stock throttle tube.

4.       Clean off the bar after removing the grip.

5.       You might want to apply some light lube to the grip bar.  This dry Teflon lube works well.

6.       Carefully slip the new G2 Throttle tube back onto your grip bar and very gently slip both of the throttle cable ends back into their respective round slots.  BE VERY CAREFUL not to bend or kink the throttle cables near their end “pucks”.  This is where they usually fail and any kinks will weaken the cables.

7.       Close up the control housing with the throttle tube inserted into the control housing.  Screw the control housing back together using the two screws you removed earlier.

8.       Because the new G2 Throttle tube is cross-hatched, it may be a bit difficult to slip your rubber grip back on the tube.  Use some sort of lubrication that will dry later.  We used hair gel. Hair spray also works.  There is also probably something specifically made for this purpose.

9.       After you get the grip back on, adjust as you see fit and that works for you.  Then, reapply the bar end and that’s all there is to it.  Now, go out and ride.
